REVOLUTION WINES

Wine… Chocolate… Massage… Three of my favorite things all came together at a special event at Revolution Wines. But more on the big event later.
First let’s get urban. As in a winery right in the middle of town. Not a wine bar, but an actual, honest to God, crushing the grapes, fermenting in French oak barrels… winery.
In the Northern California city of Sacramento, Revolution Wines is just such a place. Not only do they make fantastic wines, but if you have few extra bucks, they will guide you as you make your own wine in their facility. Yes, you are the winemaker!

A group of friends can get together and make wine as well. Many times, Revolution gets corporate customers who use the wine making experience as a team building exercise for employees. Each winemaking program is customized, so you need to call Revolution for prices and details, 916-444-7711.
But what if you just want to kick back after work and enjoy some great wine, maybe even take some home with you? Stop by Revolution, taste a few samples, find one you like and relax on their tasting room couch.

That’s exactly what I did on a recent Sunday afternoon. I enjoyed their award winning Grenache which is one of their best sellers. The grapes are from Mendocino. (All of their grapes are from Northern California.)
Revolution Wines 2007 Grenache, Mendocino, $24 WINEMAKER’S NOTES: Grown from a 40-year-old premier Mendocino estate, our inaugural Revolution Grenache is both delicate and complex. Starting with strawberries, ripe watermelon, raspberry and plum, this wine finishes long with white pepper and firm tannins.
I took home a bottle of Revolution’s Orange Muscat. Yum. I can imagine drinking a chilled glass on a warm summer’s evening.
Revolution Wines 2008 Orange Muscat, Sierra Foothills, $13 WINEMAKER’S NOTES: From sun-drenched slopes of the Sierra Foothills, enjoy a celestial expression of orange peel and honeysuckle.
I was also lucky enough to get a few sips of some yet-to-be released wines. Coming soon are a Mouvedre, a Rose’, a Marsanne and a Marsanne blend. I’m chomping at the bit to get the Marsanne. I had never tasted Marsanne before. What a treat!
Marsanne is a Rhone white wine that is usually blended with other varietals. This one definitely stands on its own. My personal tastes usually lean toward reds but this wine is so crisp and clean, I’m sure I’ll be drinking a lot of it this summer.
I also tasted their vintage port. They previewed that scrumptious wine at their recent Chocolate & Massage event.
Bassil Kamas taught about the benefits of massage and then proceeded to give chair massages to event goers.
Kristy Devaney Hicks, otherwise know as Cake Grrl www.cakegrrl.com served delicious chocolate dishes and relieved everyone’s guilt by teaching about he health benefits of chocolate.
On the menu: double fudge brownies with chocolate ganache and chocolate buttercream, gluten free chocolate cupcakes with chocolate buttercream, brownie pops and chocolate covered bacon. Yes, chocolate covered bacon!
So how do you get to Revolution Wines? How do you buy some of their fabulous vino? Never fear, I all have the answers… at least to those two questions.
Revoluton is located at 2116 P Street, Sacramento, California, 95816. They don’t have a street front location though. They are behind the antiques store you see in the photo. There is a very friendly dog in the yard to the right, and signs will point you down a very safe, well lit alley. There, you will find a courtyard and viola, Revolution Wines. Their tasting room is open Thusday thru Sunday, noon through the early evening.

To find out more about Revolution Wines, go to their website www.revolution-wines.com. Unfortunately, not all of their wines are on their website. Hey Revolution, update that website, will ya?
And if you like their wines, join their wine club to get a discount. Great wine at a discount… gotta love that!
