The Silverado Trail in Napa Valley is an historic road that is now home to dozens of wineries.  The Silverado Trail starts in Napa and meanders all the way to Calistoga and beyond.  The gorgeous scenery and fantastic wineries along the way are a “must see” if you plan to visit Northern California.

And if you plan to spend a few nights in Napa, you may want to consider the Silverado Resort in Napa proper.  I recently treated myself to a birthday stay at the Silverado.

The Silverado Resort is a beautiful property and I was wowed by the stately mansion that houses conference rooms, guest services, restaurants and more.  However, the mansion does not house guests.

I wasn’t familiar with Silverado and have to admit that I was a little disappointed that my room wasn’t in the mansion.  Instead, guest rooms are spread out around the property in condo and townhouse style buildings.  That said, the accommodations are very nice and definitely nothing to complain about.

What really makes the Silverado Resort special are its grounds.  The place has two golf courses.  I didn’t get a chance to play, but I did walk part of one course.  The scenery is fantastic.

The Silverado has several pools on the property, including one that’s heated.  There are tennis courts on the grounds. And there is a full service spa across the street.  I’ll have to check out the spa next time, as I was too busy eating and wine tasting this trip.

The resort has two restaurants on the property, plus you can get appetizers and cocktails in the Lounge.  The Royal Oak Restaurant serves dinner and features a sustainable menu by awarding winning chef Peter Pahk.  Great food by the way!  I didn’t actually eat at The Grill Restaurant.  But I did order a club sandwich with a Dutch crunch roll via room service from The Grill.

IT WAS THE BEST CLUB SANDWICH I’VE EVER EATEN… PERIOD.

Now the burning question…. how big of chunk is all this good stuff going to take out of your wallet?

Guest rooms start at $165 midweek, which is Sunday thru Thursday.  Guest rooms are $205 for Friday and Saturday night stays.

The Silverado has a variety of accommodations including:  a junior fireplace suite, one and two bedroom fireplace suites.

You can also stay in a three bedroom, detached home on the golf course for $1055 a night.

In my humble opinion, the best way to go at the Silverado is to get a package.  The resort offers a variety of spa, golf and wine lover packages that offer guests big discounts on services and rates.

Right now through August 31st, the Silverado is offering a “Sizzling Summer Special.”  The special rate is $145 a night for a guest room during a mid-week stay.  The special includes:  a $10 dining certificate at The Grill, 20% off a select 50-minute spa treatment, wine tastings at Domaine Carneros Winery and Silverado Vineyards, plus a coupon booklet to the Napa Premium Outlets.  Not bad.

For more information about the Silverado Resort see their website:  www.silveradoresort.com or call (707) 257-0200.  The Silverado is located at:  1600 Atlas Peak Road, Napa, California 94558.

I had a wonderful birthday and a great stay at the Silverado.  When I go back I’m going to take advantage of the Golf & Spa Classic package…. or maybe the Spa Girl package… or maybe….

It’s a tough job, folks.
